Massage/bodywork treatments are generally 1 to 1 1/2 hours in length. In a private treatment room, the therapist interviews the client. The therapist then leaves the room and the client removes as much clothing as they are personally comfortable with. The client then lays down on a padded massage table and covers up with a sheet. The therapist will knock before re-entering the treatment room. To respect personal privacy while providing adequate warmth, only the part of the body being worked on is exposed at any given time. Ample time will be given to discuss the client's needs with the therapist before the treatment begins. Whether or not you are expected to talk with your therapist during a treatment is up to you. Some clients like to talk with the therapist and others prefer silence. If you have any specific needs during the session, please let the therapist know. For example, you may want deeper or lighter pressure. Communicating what you would like during the treatment to the therapist is welcome. Whether or not oil or lotion is used during your session depends on the treatment modality. Some therapists will play relaxing music during a session. Others may feel it is distracting. Some may use heating pads to increase your warmth. Your therapist can answer any other questions you may have. If for any reason you cannot make your appointment, please notify your therapist as soon as possible. It is best not to have eaten for at least 2 hours before a session.
